Zev Yaroslavsky Family Support Center Civic Artwork , Los Angeles 2015

Inverted Landscapes is part of two public artworks designed by Elena Manferdini for the San Fernando Valley Family Support Center. Floating overhead in the lobby is the 12 feet x 44 feet sculpture created by Elena Manferdini.

Inverted Landscapes has been named as one of the 38 best public art projects by the 2015 Public Art Network (PAN) Year in Review by Americans for the Arts, the nation's leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts. The annual Year in Review program recognizes the most exemplary, innovative, permanent or temporary public art works created or debuted in the previous year. It is the only national award that specifically recognizes public art projects.

“We believe that art contributes to the healing qualities of a place and the health of a community,” said Pauline Kamiyama, Director of Civic Art, Los Angeles County Arts Commission. “We are grateful to the Board of Supervisors, whose ongoing commitment to civic art invites artists like Elena Manferdini to contribute to the cultural legacy of LA County.”

The Zev Yaroslavsky Family Support Center consolidates seven Los Angeles County health and human services programs into one multi-agency location. The Center’s 1,000 employees work to enhance the well-being of children and families. Services offered at the Center focus on human health, safety, economic well-being, and workforce readiness.

Combining diverse services in a single campus means that County clients no longer need to schedule multiple appointments in different locations, reducing their time away from work and lessening the stress of managing travel with children. The design also removes silos between caseworkers, resulting in more efficient and effective delivery of client services.
